LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH collaborative performance
NATIONAL GALLERY – JAMAICA BIENNIAL 2014
Su. 14th Dec 2014 – during official opening, around 2pm
With HANS DE MAN (sound), NEILA EBANKS, KIM-LEE CAMPBELL, PAUL NEWMAN, TRISTAN RODNEY, KAYON WRAY (dance) and THE GIRL AND THE MAGPIE (jewelry)

The idea ? Nature takes years to grow trees, build fertile soil, develop reefs, etc … humans only need minutes to destroy all of this. And there is no « Undo » button when it comes to the environment.
The process ? The Girl and the Magpie proposed the idea above, along with some wearable sculptures made from natural material native to Jamaica, to Hans De Man and a group of performers led by Neila Ebanks. They developed their personal interpretion, using respectively music (sounds issued from nature embedded in an organic electronic soundscape) and body language (an intense choreography expressing nature’s threatened equilibrium).
The result ? A collective translation of the idea of the necessity of the protection of nature’s beauty and fragility. The performance invites the audience to reflect on the fragility of Jamaica’s ecological balance and possible actions for its preservation. Love is not enough, actions are needed.
Second phase of this project, after the first at Redbones during the KOTE Festival (remember? here)
