CALABASH BAY
Made from fragments of buildings found on Calabash Bay beach (Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth, Jamaica) after hurricane Melissa (28 Oct.2025).
Making new beauty out of destruction. Keeping memories.
The nickname Magpie comes partly from the way I collect objects that I find precious around me. My nest being in Treasure Beach, I pick up a lot of things on the beach. After Melissa, many colorful pieces from human constructions replaced the usual shells, driftwood and trash (let’s be honest) on the completely destroyed beach.
Precious souvenirs of the buildings that the sea destroyed with its force on 28 October.
The beaches resembled a war zone, these colorful fragments emerging from a predominantly brown and rugged landscape were like precious stones bringing with them a little beauty.
